From a photographers point of view, I just love it when you arrive at a venue and look around to see either a quirky intimate location or a grand country house with magnificent grounds. Either option provides lots of scope to get creative!
You generally can't go wrong with old churches either. Whatever the venue I always make sure I have a good scout round to find the detail that everyone else misses, or the view that is passed by due to minds being elsewhere.
After all, that's what I'm there for. To capture not only the moments but also the detail that will be part of the memories of the day.
Some places can seem quite soulless at first, but once it's been decorated then it's a whole new ball game. It's also important to recognise and record the efforts that people make to ensure the bride and groom have a day to remember.
At the vintage wedding of Nick & Roxanne recently, the wedding breakfast was in a marquis on a farm. Doesn't sound very glamorous, but the bride had been collecting all kinds of memorabilia for months and months to provide the most amazing table decorations. From musical instruments, to sewing machines!!! I walked in and just didn't know where to start photographing first. It was truly incredible what they had achieved, although I have no idea what they did with all the stuff afterwards. There must have been a hell of a car boot sale.
Have a look at the attached images and maybe get some ideas for the type of venue you'd like, and for thoughts on what you can achieve.
